Essential Oil Apothecary

Apothecary (e-PATHE-ecary):  a person who prepared and sold medicines
Essential Oils:  An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants.  An oil is “essential” in the sense that it contains the “essence of” the plant’s fragrance—the characteristic fragrance of the plant from which it is derived.

The usgae of apothecary in pregnancy is so beneficial to mothers and babies. If made correctly and with care, these products can be great tools to aid in relaxation, boost energy, increase milk suppy, promote strong contractions in labor and afterward, perineum relief, soothing skin care, etc.

Women often ask if the usage of essential oils during pregnancy is safe. It’s a valid concern because components of essential oils get absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin and can easily pass through the placenta to the developing fetus. Most essential oils are safe to use during pregnancy but there are some that need to be avoided. As a certfifed aromatherapist for pregnancy, birth and postpartum, it’s my job to understand the safety guidelines of usage. The following should not be used either internally or topically while pregnant:

Anise, birch, carrot seed, cassia, cinnamon bark, cypress, dill seed, fennel, hyssop, myrrh, myrtle, oregano, sage, star anise, tansy, and yarrow.

Only the highest quality of essential oils, herbs, carrier oils and butters are used in my products. Because everyone has different needs, I make many of my products to order based on request. If you have an interest at all about starting on the essential oil path to elimiante or reduce toxins,  you can visit my website here. Please contact me for any specific needs.
